🛠️ The Tabs

1. Create

This is where you talk to the AI.

  • Step 1: Describe what you want in plain English.
    • Example: “Add a button that copies selected rows to another sheet.”
  • Step 2: Kyran will generate the Google Apps Script code for you and save it into your spreadsheet.
  • Step 3: If your request is clear, Kyran confirms success. If not, it will ask you to clarify.

⚠️ Note: Newly created add-ons become active after reloading your Google Sheet.

2. Run

This is where you use the app you’ve built.

  • If your generated app includes a sidebar, Kyran loads it here.
  • You can interact with buttons, forms, or menus, just like a normal add-on.
  • If your app doesn’t have a sidebar UI, this tab stays empty.

3. Set Up

This tab handles configuration.

  • Gemini API Key: Kyran uses Gemini for AI generation. Enter your API key here.
  • Future options (like payment, logging, or collaboration) will also live here.

🔄 Workflow Example

  1. Go to Create and type: “Create a menu item that converts all text in the selected range to title case.”
  2. Kyran generates and saves the script.
  3. Reload your Sheet.
  4. You’ll now see the new menu entry, ready to use.
  5. If your request had a sidebar, you’ll also find it in the Run tab.

📚 Tips for Better Results

  • Be specific: Instead of “Make a form”, say “Make a sidebar form with two text fields and a submit button that writes to the active sheet, …”
  • Start small: Build simple apps first, then get more ambitious.
  • Reload after creation: Your new app won’t be active until you reload the Sheet.

🔒 Privacy & Data

  • All generated code is stored inside your Google Sheet only.
  • Kyran does not access your sheet data, except through the code you ask it to generate.
  • The AI model (Gemini) receives only your description, not your actual sheet contents.

❓FAQ

Q: Do I need to know coding?
A: No. You only describe what you want in plain English (or your native language!).

Q: What if the AI doesn’t understand my request?
A: It will ask you to clarify. Rephrase in simpler steps. If still stuck, feel free to reach out.

Q: Do I need to pay?
A: This is currently a free preview. You only need to bring your own Gemini key (the add-on will show you how). We’ll provide payment plans once we receive enough feedback.

Q: Can I share the add-on I built with teammates?
A: Yes. Since the code is saved in the spreadsheet, anyone with access to the sheet can use it.
Trying to share your generated add-on inside your institution, so anyone can use it? Please reach out, we are working on this!

Q: Can I edit the generated code myself?
A: Not yet, but we are planning an export feature. Please reach out.

Q: Why is my add-on having permission issues?
A: We currently limit the permissions the add-on requests so as to not scare users during installation. Unfortunately, this means that, for the time being, your generated add-on is also limited to those permission (add menus, sidebars and dialog, call external services, manipulate the current spreadsheet, see current user email).
